Ways you can practice self-care
Practicing self-care is an essential factor for obtaining personal growth and leading a happier life. But, what exactly is self-care? A common misconception is that “self-care means being selfish”. Many of us were raised to think that we should put others before ourselves. We were taught from a young age to put aside our happiness for others. But that’s not how it’s supposed to go. And self-care is not selfish at all. In fact, self-care is the opposite of being selfish as it only strengthens you further, allowing you to better support yourself and your loved ones. Self-care means deliberately taking care of yourself in order to preserve your well-being and happiness. Practicing self-care is crucial for obtaining the level of happiness that you’re striving for. But how can one practice self-care?
Practicing self-care can happen in many different ways. There is no one right way to practice self-care and ultimately it just depends on how you choose to practice it. With that being said, I’ll share a couple of methods that I find helpful.
Meditate for at least 5 minutes every morning. This will help balance your mind for the busy day ahead, which will help you perform better.
Move around a little bit. Our bodies are meant to move, so moving will make us feel better. This can range anything from having a mini dance party to going for a run.
Spend some time in nature. Go for a walk or just sit outside and relax for a bit.
Eat healthier foods. Eating food that is good for your body will help you perform better and feel better about yourself.
Get enough sleep. While one might be tempted to stay up all night and finish up whatever work they have to do, getting enough sleep is crucial. A well-rested body and mind is essential for accomplishing great things.
Spend less time on your phone. People tend to grab their phone first thing in the morning, which gives them less time to prepare for the day. Phones can also be really distracting throughout the day, which can cause you to underperform. So limiting your screen time will help you a lot.
Keep a journal. Write down your thoughts, worries, and gratitudes, and try to reflect on them. This will help you to acknowledge the negatives, while not letting it overtake the positives in your life.
Try to do something you enjoy every day. This can be anything that will make you happy.
Keep a planner or a to-do list. Make sure you stay organized, this will save you a ton of time and it will reduce your stress.
Don’t commit to anything that you don’t want to. Never put your happiness aside for anything or anyone else.
My life has been so much better ever since I started implementing these methods into my daily routine. Try practicing some of them and I assure you that you will feel better within a couple of days.
