What exactly is time? There are many definitions of this assumed word. Well when I look at time I think of memories, of seasons or periods in our lives that are not easily forgotten. Remarkable events that are one for the books. So as we enter this new “period” of our high school careers I want us to take “time” to step back and take a look around. Notice everything and everyone around you. For many of us we are freshmans new to this highschool experience. Confused about what we’re going to wear to the Friday night games. Should we paint our favorite jersey number on our faces? Can we get away with sitting in the front row? But for others we are seniors ; class of 2023 ready to leave it all behind. Leave behind the feeling of knowing we run the students sections as well having the best seat in the house. High fiving the Football players as they run outside the tunnel onto the field and make their way to the student sections. Rattling the gates and hyping up the crowd. The Exciting feeling of counting down the days until Friday. Quickly buying our tickets to the Lions home games. Covering every inch of our bodies in paint. Losing our voices as our student section screams for the touchdowns. Hearing the band in the background, as we match our chants to the beat of their drums. Our shoes suffer from creases when we jump and shout in support of the football team’s every play. Our phones overheat, from turning them into flashlights as we light the bleachers. Notice the last time we left the Lion’s den and stormed the field in victory. A Night to remember as it marked our last home game. As the stadium lights turned off for the last time and construction began. From that day on we will be known as “visitors” as “guests”. That realization only kicked in as I washed the dried white paint from my skin and once again it reminded me of “time” of how one day things can be set in one direction and another day everything can be changed forever. Class of 2023 we were once freshmen looking at senior year as light years away. Sometimes it’s funny how “time” works. It can be our closest friend or most feared nightmare. So use it wisely, notice all the moments that make us smile. The ones that make us happy to be young. Because one day we’re going to look around and notice things are way different than we remembered; once upon a time long, long ago.
