Below is a list of hair designs for black males looking to try some new hairstyles. The article will include braids/twists for short and long hair. Highly recommended to get these hairstyles done at a professional salon or if you are able to do hair yourself I encourage that.

1) Thick Twists

These twists can be a lifesaver if your hair type is extremely curly. They are two strands of hair just twisted and are easy to maintain your curls. Really fashionable and they are easy to take care of.

2) Two strand twists with accessories

If you like flashy looks this style would be great for you. Throwing in some beads or some type of clips would really add that spark to your twists. They are still two strands and are perfect for any length of hair including short.

3) Triangle Twists

Casual two strand patterns still going on in this one. This one has that unique design to it within the hair rather than the usual box pattern. This one really makes you stand out and could be greatly blended with accessories (Recommendation #2). Although this hairstyle would look great on many people, the length of the hair limits people out for this one; medium/long length hair is recommended.

4) Dutch Man Braid

Medium-Long length hair is needed for this one. This design is one of the more simpler ones for stylists to do. As you can see below this braiding style looks really good with accessories in the hair and if done well and taken care of these can last a while.

5) Top Knot Braids

This one really defines your hair type and is targeted mainly for long hair but can possibly be done with medium length hair. It is done by tying the braids together at the ends and putting them up and to the sides. This one is typically easier for the stylists to do

6) Cornrow Man Bun

Cornrow braids are the most popular and probably the most worn braids for males. Adding in the extra bun really gives it that different look and brings out the design. This will take more time if done like the image below but this one can be done in different ways.

7) Zig Zag Braids

If done well this design can last quite a while and they stand out in the crowd. It can be done in many different ways so it’s not limited to just the image below. This one is mainly for long hair. Silk everything, like pillowcases/tying down your hair is really needed for this style because these ones can frizz more easily and require more work to keep up. Not many males try this style because they are more time consuming, guaranteed you’ll stand out when you try a new design.

8) Curly Dreadlocks

This technique is recommended for any length of hair and looks good on many people because it is more textured than the traditional Locs. Also a huge key to keeping them up is tying them up, silk pillow, and or bonnet.

9) Top Knot Dreadlocks

Putting dreadlocks into a high bun or even just simply pulling them back can make a major difference in the style. It can be done with any type of dreads and is still comfortable and outstanding.

10) Short Knotted Dreadlocks

This hairstyle originates from South Africa specifically from Zulu people. It is dreadlocks being formed into small/short length Bantu Knots (What they’re known as). Stylists split the hair into sections, twist it, and stack it to make the knot. The hairstyle represents power, pride, and beauty.
